What a day for Cleveland Browns Twitter. Hue Jackson has emerged from the depths of Mike Silver’s basement, and he has some words for Browns fans and the organization.
Listen, Hue Jackson seems like a wonderful guy to have a beer with and watch a game. He was a very good coordinator. He had a hand in the development of players like Chad Johnson, TJ Houshmandzadeh, and Joe Flacco. Head Coach? Eh…..
In 2011, Hue took over for Tom Cable as Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders. Running with 32-year-old Carson Palmer as his starting QB, Jackson and the Raiders finished 8-8 and 3rd in the division. 8-8 seems about on-par for a Carson Palmer-led team.
8-8 is EXCELLENT for a Hue Jackson-led team, as we found out in Cleveland.
Jackson was fired at the end of the 2011-2012 season.
Hue Jackson was hired as Browns Head Coach on January 13, 2016.
After a 3-13 2015 season led by Mike Pettine and Billy Manziel, things couldn’t get much worse for the Cleveland Browns…right?
So, so wrong.
Hue Jackson and the Cleveland Browns went into the season with a broken Robert Griffin III as the starting QB. After RGIII went down, the Browns went through a rotation of 4 other QBs, including Josh McCown, Cody Kessler, Kevin Hogan, and Charlie f*cking Whitehurst.
Cleveland finished a pathetic 1-15, with their only win coming against the San Diego Chargers in week 16.
I get it…he wasn’t handed the best cards here…but McCown is generally good for at least a couple of wins.
1-15. Cant get any worse than that…right?
Hue Jackson and the Cleveland Browns made history in 2017…in literally the worst way possible.
It started with forcing a non-NFL-ready 2nd Round pick, DeShone Kizer, in the starting QB role for week 1. I don’t want to dive too deep into the dumpster that was 2017…if you don’t already know, the Browns joined the 2008 Detroit Lions as the only 2 franchises in NFL HISTORY to have a winless season, bringing Hue Jackson’s Head Coaching record to an unbelievable 1-31 in Cleveland.
Just when you thought Jimmy Haslam would do the right thing and get rid of this guy…Hue Jackson starts the 2018 season as the Cleveland Browns Head Coach.
After starting the 2018 season 2-5-1 (thanks to Baker Mayfield for those wins,) Jackson was finally fired…bringing his record in Cleveland to 3-36-1.
Now, statistically…his 11-44-1 all-time record makes him the 2nd worst Head Coach in NFL history.
How can that be possible? Who was worse than that?
Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach and former NFL Commissioner finished his career at 11-46-2, just edging out Hue Jackson as the worst head coach in history.

Here’s the thing…3-36-1 is not completely Hue’s fault.
Haslam, Dorsey, and their ‘Moneyball” guys played a big role in that as well, and I put just as much blame on them for 2 of the worst seasons of any sport I have ever seen.
As Head Coach, those players are your responsibility. Building those players up and earning their respect is part of the job. You didn’t do that, Hue.
Instead, you placed the blame on literally anybody you could…and you’re back at it today on Twitter.
There can be all the “internal discord” you want to claim. I believe that the front office was an absolute shit show. I believe you had less say in things than we all think…
The fact is, YOU were the head coach of that team. YOU led your players to 3-36-1. Don’t get it twisted, buddy.
I know you will disagree with me, Hue. I understand. Let’s talk about it over a drink. I’d love to hear your side on all of this…but you don’t get off scot-free on that record.
You should log off of Twitter for the day.
